ENVIRONMENT

Environment is a combination of living and non-living things. It may also be described as condition which has great impact on living organism such as Climate, atmosphere and weather condition. There are renewable and non- renewable resources available in environment.

Atmosphere: Earth is surrounded by gases which protect it from harmful rays of sun. There are five different layers in earth atmosphere i.e. Exosphere, thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere and troposphere. It consist of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% argon and other inert gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapours etc.

Troposphere is the lowest layer of earth atmosphere. It extends form surface of earth with 7Km from pole and 17Km from equator. Troposphere is having high temperature in bottom layer and as altitude increases temperature decrease is measured. The layer between troposphere and stratosphere is called Tropopause which is 12km above the earth surface.

Stratosphere is the second layer of the earth atmosphere, its start above troposphere and extends till 50 to 55Kms. In stratosphere, it consists of most important layer of earth surface i.e. Ozone layer, which protect all living organism present in earth atmosphere. The temperature rise is usually seen in this layer due to the absorption of UV ray from sun.

Mesosphere is the third highest layer of the earth atmosphere, which is 80-85Km above the earth surface and 30-35Km above the stratosphere. At this attitude tiny water droplets forms into polar-mesospheric noctilucent clouds. Polar-mesospheric noctilucent clouds are the highest clouds which are present in atmosphere that can be seen by naked eyes at the time of sunset (i.e. 1 - 2 hrs after sunset) and sunrise (i.e. 1-2 hrs before sunrise).

Thermosphere starts above the mesosphere i.e. above 85km and extends till 690km. This layer is completely free from water vapour and clouds. But aurora borealis and aurora australis are occasionally seen in this layer. These are the natural lights which are formed sky and mainly seen in Arctic and Antarctic region .

Weather: Weather is a state of atmosphere with different condition such as some time it’s like dryness, sunshine, windy, rainy, cloudiness, humidity, snow, fog, storms etc. These conditions are often seen in troposphere. Temperature differs from lower to higher altitude. Higher altitudes have cooler air than lower altitudes. It depends on climate condition in particular place and time of a region. Weather change can take place in shortest period of time i.e. like few hours . Human has attempted many time to control weather as per themselves and due to industrialization and urbanization, weather condition have been changed. And we have visual effect of pattern change in weather.

Climate: Climate differ from weather as weather is just for short period of time in a particular region whereas climate can be described as long term change in season.
